Colorado Skating Club Board & DeLio Sisters,

I am honored to have been awarded the Joe DeLio Education Scholarship for 2021. Thank you to the DeLio Foundation for your generosity in providing these awards to support skaters and students like myself in achieving our educational goals. Receiving this award motivates me to work harder and give back more to my skating community in the future.

I am very grateful for all the skating memories I have made through the years, and the sport has helped shape me into the person I am today. Today, I am a junior at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York, dual majoring in Mathematics and Economics. Like many other students across the world, I have been trying to overcome the hurdles of the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite all the challenges of being physically distanced from campus, I found a way to continue being involved and joined the Rensselaer Union Executive Board where I serve as a club and organization representative for six student clubs operating on campus. I am also the president of RPI’s chapter of the Association of Women in Mathematics (AWM). Last fall I became involved with undergraduate research, and my team has worked on designing a web application called COVID SafeCampus that tracks population density on RPI’s campus and can be used by administrative staff for planning purposes. I have continued this work since I returned to Troy in January in the Undergraduate Research Program at RPI, and my team and I will be presenting the results of our research at the New York Women in Computing conference in April. Apart from the academic work, a big source of joy for me is volunteering for Big Brothers/Big Sisters of America, and I truly enjoy spending time with my “Little”, whose curiosity and imagination helps me look at today’s world through her eyes and strive to help make it better. I will be back in Denver in the summer to do an internship with Cigna, but I hope to have a little extra time to skate as well. As always, I look forward to volunteering at Cup of Colorado in August.

Once again, I feel very grateful and appreciative of the support of the DeLio family, the Colorado Skating Club, and the whole skating community and will continue in my efforts to contribute more and give back in the years to come.

Thank you very much again for this award, and I hope you and your family are staying safe and healthy!

I look forward to seeing you this summer,

Mia

Dear DeLio Sisters, Colorado Skating Club Board Members and Coaches,

I would like to thank you all so much for awarding me the DeLio  Scholarship this year!!

I am still in shock! You have no idea how much this means to me.

I absolutely love skating and am so focused on working to get better every day.

My parents work so hard and sacrifice so many things in order for me  to follow my dreams of being one of the top skaters in the United

 States.

This scholarship will help me so much as I continue to work so hard to achieve my ultimate goal.

I am so proud to represent the Colorado Skating Club and I am so grateful for all of your generosity and support.

II promise that I will do whatever I can to make you proud!

Thank you so much!
